Auditions for the Classen SAS Guitar program are held in January
Guitar Performance Audition
It is important to realize that this is a Classical Guitar Program. Students must show a passion for learning and playing classical guitar. The foundations of this program are sight-reading, classical technique, and musicality.
Required materials: Solo Guitar Playing 1 by Frederick Noad and Pumping Nylon by Scott Tenant
Elementary Students
To prepare for the guitar audition students should be able to read in any single line melody
in first position in C Major.
6th grade requirements
Sight Reading 1st position in C Major Repertoire Any single line melody Scales C Major in One octave
7th grade requirements
Sight Reading 1st position in C Major, G Major Repertoire Any single line melody Scales C Major in One octave, G Major one octave
8th grade requirements
Sight Reading 1st position in C Major Repertoire student may choose a section fromFrederick Noad Solo 1 pg. 49,57,58, or 59 Scales 1st position in C, G, D, A, E major Much more is required in our high school auditions. Students must be able to read in 1st and 5th position fluently. Students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of classical position and technique including but not limited to:
1. Seating Position
2. Left and Right Hand Position
3. Ascending and Descending Slures as demonstrated in the Pumping Nylon book.
4. Finger Independence as demonstrated in P.N.
5. Segovia Scales
9th grade requirements

Due to the course requirements of the program NO STUDENTS are accepted into the Classen Guitar Program after 9th grade.
